Jules Joy has been knitting all of her adult life beginning in earnest when she was pregnant with her daughter Analise. She puts out socks on a regular basis but her favorite project is kid sweaters. Upon moving to Homer in 2004 she was alarmed to realize there was no yarn/knitting store!! How would she grow her stash? An idea was born. Other life got in the way until meeting Sarah in 2008 when the seed began to germinate once again. With a few well placed nudges and a couple pushes, Sarah convinced Jules that she really would be the numbers gal and Jules could focus on the teaching and building of knitting monsters, not numbers (which Jules finds tiresome) and thus CommuKnitty Stash was born.
Sarah Browngoetz taught herself to knit a scarf 7 years ago from a book. Fortunately she lost the book before finishing the scarf and didn’t actually finish it until meeting Jules Joy about a year ago. That’s when Jules taught Sarah how to cast off and a knitting monster was born. After finishing up that first scarf Sarah went on to learn how to make socks, felted bags and headbands all from her first Knitty Friend; Jules.
With the acquisition of these new knitting skills Sarah felt compelled to build her personal Stash to include all the yarns she’d ever want to use. Alas, this proved more expensive than Sarah considered possible so she began to explore other ways to get her hands on the yummy yarns she craved. At the same time Sarah was ever so thankful to Jules for teaching this wonderful skill and thought “We ought to capitalize on this woman’s mad teaching skills” so Sarah approached Jules to enter into a partnership and thus CommuKnitty Stash was born.
2013 The Year of Change!
As life often does, it has brought change to Knitty Stash. Sarah has left the business to pursue different adventures. Her energetic ideas and brilliance is missed. Also she made me laugh. With the launch of The Alaskan Yarn Co. and our handpainted Alaskan colorways Knitty Stash is being found around the state and we’re going strong!! This is going to be a grand adventure!
